A rotund, seated male with mouth open and left arm raised to the top of his head. His right arm held to chest and mouth open as if vocalizing. A small bag hangs to his left side. Possibly showing a shaman in trance? Or, perhaps this figure represents a mythical character whose identity is yet to be revealed? Enigmatic. From the Shaft Tomb Culture of Jalisco region, Mexico. Buff earthenware with creamy grayish white slip and red paint. Height 9", in very fine condition with no damage or restoration. Provenance: ex-Eugene Behlen Collection, NM and FL, 1997-2007; Ron Messick Fine Arts, Santa Fe, NM; ex- private CA collection, 1960's.
